About me

Full-stack engineer, based in Vancouver.

Hi, I'm Zane.

Vancouver, Canada

I am a full-stack engineer in Vancouver, currently at Microsoft. I design and build interfaces, APIs, and infrastructure.

Before joining Microsoft in September 2026, I spent six years at AWS Identity, working on frontend architecture and micro-frontends for the AWS console. Before that, I worked in SaaS, eCommerce, applied research, and teaching.

I grew up in a small town in the Okanagan and moved to Vancouver in 2016.

I first got into technology through robotics in early high school, then found myself drawn to software. At Okanagan College, where I studied Computer Information Systems, I discovered how much I enjoyed web development. Industry projects gave me practical experience while I was studying; I went on to lead the web work for my capstone project and present for IEEE in 2014.

At AWS Identity, my work included frontend modernization, shared console experiences, developer tooling, and mentorship.

My independent projects follow different curiosities. Novella explores reading together. Deoxy looks at a living colony through simulation and genetic traits. Substrate brings application deployment and operations into one workspace. Sail brings sailboat listings, shortlists, and market comparisons together.

I design their interfaces too: book selection in Novella, cell and genome inspection in Deoxy, and deployment status in Substrate.

Career and experience

Outside of work

Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, bouldering, photography, drawing, video games, and dabbling in side projects. I am a cat person, and share my home with two cats named Sumi and Ice.

I would love to learn how to sail someday. One of my longer-term dreams is to own a sailboat and spend some time exploring the coast.

Making my own cider is another idea that has been sitting on the list for a while.

I write about software, cooking, and other interests on A Byte Upon The Sea.
